Pantoh – A cooking app for creating and sharing recipes with a global food community

With years of experience leading global product teams, the founder of Pantoh decided to channel his lifelong passion for cooking into a new venture. He came to us to develop a cooking app designed for both iOS and Android, transforming his hobby into his next professional journey. He wanted a platform where anyone who enjoys cooking could add their own recipes, customize them, and even modify other users’ recipes. The app also needed to consider personal food restrictions, like allergies or specific diets.

The first priority was creating Pantoh’s branding, which involved designing a logo, branded visuals, and selecting signature colors. This became the groundwork for the upcoming app design and development phase.

One of the app’s key features would include recipe version control, allowing users to save their modifications while preserving the original and maintaining proper attribution. An AI technology serves to import recipes from websites or text. The system scans the source text or webpage, identifies all relevant parameters, and transforms them into a complete recipe format that users can easily follow.

Overall, the Pantoh app should serve as a cultural bridge that helps people with the same cooking taste share their recipes. With this in mind, the TRIARE team moves into the discovery phase to lay the groundwork for a successful app.

Our workflow started with the discovery phase. We learnt the client’s requirements in detail, evaluated the features he wanted, and started exploring trends in the industry. Since the client had a full picture, we focused more on its details and features that lay as a base for a successful cooking app. Once we merged our ideas with the client’s, we presented them for approval before moving on to the next stage.

Afterward, we focused on crafting the design. We had several tasks to tackle. First, creating Pantoh’s branding. From this side, we designed a logo and branded colors that reflect Pantoh’s mission and values. Next, our design team created interfaces for the mobile app and a website that serves as a landing page and provides key information about the app. 

The next stage was mobile and web development, building on the assets and insights from the design phase. Our primary focus was on developing a cross-platform app for iOS and Android using Flutter. During this stage, the client introduced new requirements and requested enhancements to existing features. To address this, we conducted an additional discovery phase to refine and expand the feature set, delivering greater value and depth.

The TRIARE development team built core app features, including authorisation, browsing, dishes filtering by specific preferences, recipes creation and editing, sharing them with the app community and friends, as well as implementing AI features for recipes import. As part of the core feature set, our team developed a recipe customization option. With it, users can take existing recipes in the app and modify them to their liking. All features were fully implemented and successfully validated with early users.
