iTorah – An Educational Platform for Studying Jewish Tradition

iTorah has been developed and is managed by Torah Learning Resources Ltd. (TLR), a Brooklyn, NY-based non-profit organization, since late 2001. At that time, our client’s first efforts consisted of sending out a short 3-minute audio file of Rabbi Mansour’s daily recording of a Halacha. Soon after, they began transcribing and editing the audio files. This was followed in March 2005. Then it grew to the website and mobile app, where everyone can learn all about iTorah and download materials from there. 

With clear goals and an engaged audience already in place, we stepped in to enhance both the website and mobile app

The client approached us with a long-standing product that gathered its audience and brought value in terms of learning Jewish tradition. The backend was built on .NET, which posed a challenge in terms of support and further development. Ensuring seamless improvements without interrupting ongoing user activity required extra care.

The Flutter-based mobile app also needed support and refinement. It was part of a legacy system, so we needed to operate within the limits of the existing architecture. At the same time, we focused on boosting performance and guaranteeing long-term maintainability.

To support the legacy backend built on .NET, we brought a specialized .NET developer onto the team. This allowed us to quickly understand the existing architecture and ensure stable system maintenance. We set up a reliable delivery process focused on bringing regular value to the client through incremental updates, bug fixes, and performance improvements, without interrupting the live system.

On the mobile side, our Flutter experts took over the development and support of the legacy app. We delivered the required new functionality and carried out code improvements where possible. We proposed a refactoring roadmap and, with the client, created a backlog of improvements to enhance quality, performance, and user experience.

Backend

• Rebuilt and extended functionality for one of the legacy admin panels to meet current needs.
• Significantly improved the speed of media file loading, boosting performance for end users.
• Refactored several key APIs critical to the web application’s functionality.
• Applied a wide range of enhancements to critical modules within the admin panel, improving reliability and maintainability.

Our collaboration led to noticeable improvements across both the admin panel and end-user experience. Content management on a website became significantly more efficient, saving time for the client’s team thanks to streamlined admin panel functionality. But that’s not all. 

Users and administrators both appreciated the quality-of-life improvements that made daily interactions with the system much smoother. Now, all the client’s team’s workflow is more productive thanks to this improvement. We also provided easy access to and comparison of analytics data across web and mobile apps. These help support smarter, data-driven decisions.

Finally, by replacing outdated legacy solutions with updated, more secure software versions, we significantly enhanced the platform’s overall security and stability.
